Clients who should not be referred to the center

The center is staffed by doctoral students in training to become psychologists. As such, there is a limit to types of cases that trainees can/should see.

The center should not be referred the following types of cases and will refer such cases to community providers:

  • People with active homicidal or suicidal intent/plan
  • People experiencing an active manic episode
  • People managing bipolar disorder
  • People with active psychosis
  • People actively going through substance use detoxification
  • People who are going through the campus disciplinary board process and/or are involved in legal situations or lawsuits
  • Children and adolescents under the age of 18 years. We hope to add services for minors in the future.

Some individuals may have mental health needs that are better addressed by IU-Indianapolis Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) or other community providers. Please call our center to ask for more information.
